It’s that time of the year again.

The holidays are already upon us. That means the busiest time of the year for many. Industries like retail, shipping, transportation, and travel will be working around the clock to make sure everyone has what they need to be prepared for the holiday season.

Of course, we all know that it’s a busy season on the roads. To top it all off, this is also when we tend to see the weather worsening, making road conditions less safe. We all want to make sure our drivers and everyone else stay safe on the road.

But what does the holiday season mean for fleet repair shops? How do you prepare?

Here are some quick tips to prepare for the busy season:

  • Weather Preparations

Make sure your fleet is prepared for the winter storms and the weather conditions ahead. Take special care of vehicles that you know are on routes adversely affected by the weather. Have a maintenance plan in place to prepare for the winter weather. Consider doing extra maintenance before the weather conditions change. It’s a perfect time to check critical equipment like brake pads and tires, as well as simple things like wipers and fluids. You want to make sure your fleet is prepared to prevent accidents and to keep your drivers safe.

  • Check Your Schedule

The holiday season is meant to be spent with family and friends, but we also need to make sure someone is there for the ones on the road. Schedule your maintenance preparation and upcoming repair in advance to make sure your staff can get some well-deserved time off. But don’t forget to have someone on call that can handle emergencies and be there for the drivers.

  • Prioritize

Although our industry can get crazy busy during the holiday season, take some time to prioritize. Does it all need to be done right now? What can be moved to after the holidays and even after the new year? It can be a stressful time and sometimes we may feel like everything has to be done immediately, but don’t forget to take some time to review your priorities. Focus on what’s critical to get everyone safely through the holidays and what’s needed to prepare for the winter weather.

  • Take Time to Enjoy

If you did the maintenance prep, scheduled your upcoming workload, prioritized accordingly, and took care of your employees’ schedules … it’s time to sit back and enjoy this time with your friends and family.

Yes, it can be a tough time in our industry but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still enjoy it. Do what you can to ensure the safety of others, care for one another, and get through the season safely and happily.
